View component files in a PDF portfolio

By Cynthia, 21 November, 2025

The preview pane in the portfolio window allows you to quickly preview a file without opening it in its native application.

You can also open a component file in its native application (if installed on your computer) by doing any of the following:

  • Double-click the file in the portfolio.
  • Select the file and click button in the secondary toolbar.
  • Right-click the file and choose Open File in Native Application.

Tip: For non-PDF component files (e.g., TXT files), Foxit PDF Editor allows you to preview and open them if the security setting allows. For more information, please refer to “Security Settings for Non-PDF Attachments”.

To view the properties of a component file, right-click the file in the portfolio and choose Show Information. Or select the component file and click the  button in the secondary toolbar.

You can find text in PDF component files and print the files directly in the preview pane using the Advanced Search feature and the Print command. For a component file that is a non-PDF file, you need to open the file in its native application to search and print it.

To copy text in a component file, you can directly copy the selected text in the preview pane by pressing Ctrl + C or choosing the Copy command from the right-click menu. If the component file is a PDF file, you can copy text with its formatting by right-clicking the selected text and choose Copy With Formatting from the context menu.
