Save a PDF file on iManage 9

By Cynthia, 6 December, 2025

To save a local PDF document to the iManage 9 repository, or if you open and edit a document in the iManage 9 without checking it out and need to save it to the iManage 9 repository, save the changes you made in the document and then do the following:

To save as a new document in iManage 9 repository:

  1. Go to File > Save As, click the server you registered previously and click Save As. Or click Share > iManage 9 > Save As > Save As
  2. In the pop-up Save As dialog box, choose a target folder and enter the name/description of the document. Enter the Author name, or click the button next to the text box and choose a user. You can also choose a class and a subclass for the document.

After completing all of the settings, click Detail… to display the details of the document information. You can also edit the information in this dialog box.

Note: With the Use Document Profile option selected in File > Preferences > ECM Integration, when you click Save As in Step 1, the New Profile dialog box pops up instead of the Save As dialog box mentioned above. In the New Profile dialog box, you can directly edit the document properties and save the document.

  3. When you’re done, click Save to save the document to the iManage 9.

To save as a new version of an existing Work document:

  1. Go to Share > iManage 9 > Save As > Save As Work Version
  2. In the pop-up dialog box, select a document in iManage 9, and click New Version
  3. Specify the document properties in the New Version Profile dialog box, and click Save to save it as a new version of the selected document.

To save a checked-out PDF document, you can choose to replace the original document in the iManage 9 or save it as a new version or a new document.

After modification, go to File > Save As, click the server you registered previously and click Save As. Or click Share > iManage 9 > Save As > Save As. In the Save As Options dialog box, choose any of the following:

  • New Version: Click OK, set the document profile for the new version, and the modified document will be saved as a new version, leaving the original document unchanged.
  • New Document: Click OK and the modified document will be saved as a new document, leaving the original document unchanged. In the pop-up Save As dialog box, complete the settings and click Save. See also Save a local document to the iManage 9.
  • Replace Original: Click OK and the modified document will overwrite the original document in the iManage 9.

Note: By default, only New Version and New Document are displayed in the Save As Options dialog box. To show the Replace Original option in the dialog box, add a new key to the Registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Foxit\Foxit PDF Editor\iManage\Preferences

Key Name: ReplaceOriginal

Type: DWORD       Value: 1

Set the value data to 1 to display the Replace Original option; with the value of 0 or null, the option will not be displayed.
