Foxit PDF Editor supports exporting and importing bookmarks. You may need to export bookmarks from your document to share the bookmarks with others who have a copy of a document without the bookmarks (or with an old version of the bookmarks). Or if your document is too large, you need to export and delete the bookmarks from the document, and then send the document (without bookmarks) and its bookmarks separately to others. Then users who receive the bookmarks can import the bookmarks to their documents.
To export bookmarks, follow the steps below:
- Open the PDF document that contains the bookmarks you want to export.
- Select the bookmarks you want to export in the Bookmarks panel.
- Click the Options menu in the upper-left corner of the panel (or right-click the selected bookmarks) and choose Export Selected Bookmarks. (To export all bookmarks in the document, choose Export All Bookmarks.)
- The bookmarks will be extracted and saved in an XML file. You can specify the name and the location for it.
As needed, open the XML bookmark file with a text editor like Notepad and edit the data in the given structure.
To import bookmarks to a document, do the following:
- Open the PDF document that you want to import the bookmarks to.
If the document does not contain any bookmarks before you import bookmarks, click the Options menu in the upper-left corner of the panel and choose Import Bookmarks. In the pop-up dialog box, browse to the bookmark file and click Open. Then the bookmarks will be imported successfully.
If the document contains bookmarks and no bookmarks are selected before you import bookmarks, the imported bookmarks will be added to the end of the original bookmarks. With one or more bookmarks selected in the document before you import bookmarks, the imported bookmarks will be added after the last one of the selected bookmarks.
