Edit and save component files

By Cynthia, 29 November, 2025

You are allowed to edit component files after opening them in their native applications. If the component file is a non-PDF file and you want to save the changes after editing it, you can save it as a new file outside the portfolio.

For a PDF file in a portfolio, you can perform many tasks directly in the preview pane, including commenting, editing, page rearranging, and more. If you edit a PDF file in the preview pane, the changes you make will be temporarily saved back to the file itself in the portfolio. To save the modified PDF, you need to save the portfolio before closing the portfolio. Note: If you need to modify a PDF in the portfolio and save the modified PDF as a new file outside the portfolio, open the PDF file in its native application (i.e. a new file tab in the Foxit PDF Editor application window), and save it using the Save As command after editing.
