The AI Assistant within Foxit PDF Editor automatically saves your chat sessions, even after you close the application, so you can easily return to previous conversations, whether they involve documents or general questions. Chats started while a document is open are saved with that document, preserving context so you can continue work seamlessly. Chats started without opening a file are saved separately and are accessible from the AI Chat panel when no documents are open or when you are on the Start page of Foxit PDF Editor.
Starting and managing chats
The following steps are based on the AI Assistant within Foxit PDF Editor for Windows.
Click the new chat
icon at the top-right corner of the AI Chat panel to begin a new conversation.Click the down-arrow icon
next to the current chat name at the top-left of the AI Chat panel to expand all chats you have started. Click the three-dot icon next to any chat in the list to rename or delete it. - When creating a new chat, click the temporary chat icon
at the top-right of the AI Chat panel to enable a temporary session. Temporary chats are not saved in history and are not used for memory recall.
Chat history behavior
- Document-tied chats
When you chat while a document is open, the conversation is saved with that document. Each document maintains its own chat history, and reopening the same document automatically loads its chat history.
- Chats not tied to a document
Chats started without opening a file are saved separately. You can access these conversations from the AI Chat panel when no documents are open or from the Start page. These sessions are useful for general questions, brainstorming, or help unrelated to a specific PDF.
- Multiple chats
You can start several chats for different topics or purposes and manage them independently.
How to access and remove chat history
To access a document’s chat history, go to the Chats tab on the Start page of Foxit PDF Editor, select the document from the document list, and open it. Then open the AI Chat panel and select a chat to view its history.
To remove all chat history for a document, select the document from the list in the Chats tab on the Start page, and click the Delete icon
above the list. (Note: Changing a document’s storage path will cause its chat history to be lost.)To remove a specific chat for a document, open the document, go to the top-left of the AI Chat panel, and remove the chat from the chat list.
To remove chat history that is not associated with a document (chats started from the Start page), select the “Start page” item in the document list in the Chats tab and click the Delete icon
above the list to remove all such chat history. To remove a specific non-document chat, go to the top-left of the AI Chat panel and remove that chat from the chat list.
Note: Chat history does not share across platforms, even when you sign in with the same account.
